Step
Step
Michelle was ready for an outdoor project at the first sign of 50 degree weather. She wasted no time and headed outside to get a jump-start on quite a few home projects that have been on her mind all winter. First was creating new house numbers. Modern, her house is not, but if she had her way, it would be. To move it in that direction, she gave it a little hint of modern with new house numbers.
To tackle this project she picked up some (free) paint stir sticks at Home Depot and cut them down to size.
Step
Next, she stained them. Staining was as simple as dipping the cut sticks into a can of Minwax Stain. Then, she laid them on Bounty® Paper Towels until they dried.
Step
Step
She then glued them onto a board that she spray painted (to blend in with the white pillar it would lean against).
Step
Michelle then applied modern-style numbers. You could use the Hillman Group 5 in. Elevated Steel numbers at The Home Depot. They can be mounted flush or as a floating number. The floating mount casts a soft shadow behind the number as light conditions change throughout the day.

This simple do-it-yourself house numbers project brought Michelle some great attention on Pinterest and local media. All the attention is well-deserved because Michelle's bright idea is not only creative but one that marks her house with style and personality.
