Erin from House of Earnest takes inspiration from the sea and decor trends with this simple DIY Gold Urchin project.

Step
Erin has an eye on trends when it comes to home decor. The oceanic theme is making the headlines of all the magazines and gold accessories are back in style. So not only is this gold urchin super on trend, it is crazy easy to make and super simple to cleanup.
Step
First, Erin cut a 3" foam sphere in half. Second, she snipped wooden skewers into lengths ranging from 2" to 4" and everywhere in between. Then she placed the skewers into the domed portion of the foam. She made sure that each skewer appeared to be originating at the same central point.
Step
Step
For the last step, she sprayed the urchin outdoors on a few sheets of Bounty paper towels. Erin keeps stocked up on these with every trip for her DIY supplies at The Home Depot.
Step

The gold urchin is a simple and elegant way to liven up any bookshelf. When paired with other gold accents, it can make a bright impact on any room. To see Erin's full tutorial, check out her blog House of Earnest.
